New Magistrate Judge Appointed

New Magistrate Judge Appointed

Presiding Judge Lawrence E. Long is pleased to announce that the South Dakota Supreme Court has approved the appointment of Attorney Rachel R. Rasmussen as Magistrate Judge for the Second Judicial Circuit, Lincoln and Minnehaha Counties. Attorney Rasmussen will fill the seat vacated by Magistrate Judge Crystal Johnson who recently returned to practice.      

Rasmussen is a South Dakota native who earned her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and her law degree from the University of Minnesota. She began her practice with the Lincoln County State's Attorney's Office and then transitioned to private practice at Peterson, Stuart, Rasmussen & Klentz, Prof. LLC, in Beresford, South Dakota. Rasmussen lives on an acreage in the greater Sioux Falls area with her husband and two daughters.

Judge Rasmussen will take the bench on Monday, September 17, 2018 with a formal swearing-in ceremony to follow sometime thereafter at the Minnehaha County Courthouse in Sioux Falls.
