First Circuit Judge Bjorkman Retiring
South Dakota First Circuit Judge Timothy Bjorkman announced in March that he will step down from the bench. Judge Bjorkman was elected by First Circuit voters in 2006 and re-elected without opposition in 2014. During his tenure on the circuit court, Judge Bjorkman served as the chair of the South Dakota Pattern Jury Instruction Committee and served a term as President of the the South Dakota Judges’ Association, and before that as its Secretary-Treasurer.
In announcing his retirement, Judge Bjorkman stated: “It has been my high honor to have been entrusted by the voters to serve them on the circuit bench. While today I sense a different calling, I have found deep purpose in serving as a judge. I have also appreciated working with my judicial colleagues, court personnel, and the lawyers who advocate for their clients, in our joint efforts to promote and administer justice.”
Judge Bjorkman’s successor will be appointed by Governor Dennis Daugaard.
