Gov. Daugaard Names Patricia DeVaney As Sixth Circuit Judge
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that he will appoint Patricia DeVaney as a circuit judge in South Dakota’s Sixth Judicial Circuit.
DeVaney will fill the vacancy created last year when the Governor appointed Judge Lori S. Wilbur to the South Dakota Supreme Court. The Sixth Circuit includes Bennett, Gregory, Haakon, Hughes, Hyde, Jackson, Jones, Lyman, Mellette, Potter, Stanley, Sully, Todd, and Tripp counties.
“Patty DeVaney is a talented attorney who has distinguished herself during two decades of service as an assistant attorney general,” Gov. Daugaard said. “Those who worked with her, and those who have worked opposite her, speak of Patty in the very highest terms. I am very pleased that she has agreed to serve our state as a circuit judge.”
DeVaney is a native of Polo, S.D.
“I want to thank Gov. Daugaard for this opportunity,” DeVaney said. “I have worked hard to represent the people of our state as an assistant attorney general, and I will work just as hard as a judge to administer justice fairly.”
