Second Circuit DUI Court to Hold Graduation Ceremony
PIERRE, S.D.—Second Circuit DUI Court will hold a graduation ceremony to honor participants’ achievements on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. CDT. The event will take place in Courtroom 3B at the Minnehaha County Courthouse, 425 N. Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls.
The graduation ceremony is evidence of the tremendous impact that the Second Circuit DUI Court has on the community. Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead will give the commencement speech.
This event is open to the public, as well as family and friends of the participants who are graduating. Media is invited to attend, with interviews available upon request. Those attending are asked to enter the courthouse through the front entry, where they will have to go through security screening. Attendees will then take the elevators, located to the right of the security area, to the third floor.
For three decades, there has been a growing movement to transform the way the justice system responds to substance use and mental health disorders. Rather than continuing the revolving door of addiction and related crime, treatment courts break the cycle by holding individuals accountable while connecting them with the treatment and support needed to change their lives.
Second Circuit DUI Court utilizes a multi-disciplinary team approach with its participants to ensure their successful reintegration into the community as law abiding citizens.
“These graduations are powerful reminders that when one person rises out of addiction and finds recovery, we all rise,” said Second Circuit DUI Court Coordinator Desiree Kincaid. “This is an example of the thousands of individual stories that demonstrate why treatment courts are so critical in the effort to address addiction and related crime.”
