PUBLIC NOTICE
April 8, 2024
The city of Sioux Falls is closing Dakota Avenue in front of the Minnehaha County Courthouse at 425 N. Dakota Ave. beginning Monday, April 8, 2024, for extensive curb, gutter and sidewalk replacement. Minnehaha County is also replacing a portion of the parking lot behind the Old Courthouse Museum, referred to as the “public defender’s lot,” along Main and Dakota avenues.
Minnehaha County Courthouse visitors and jurors may want to allow extra time to navigate the construction. Also, parking may be limited during this time.
Pedestrian access to the front plaza and main entry of the courthouse will be maintained throughout the work, but by way of the long, sloped sidewalk closer to the Administration Building rather than the sidewalk along Dakota Avenue. The northeast corner entrance of the courthouse, directly across from the Human Services Building, will also remain available. This entrance is less often used but may be more convenient during construction, depending on available parking.
The construction is expected to last a couple of weeks. Minnehaha County court staff thanks the public for their patience.
