The UJS is warning the public to be aware of scams about unpaid traffic ticket fines and missed jury duty circulating across the state. These messages are not legitimate. The state of South Dakota does not send traffic ticket notices via text messages. Law enforcement and the courts will never demand payment over the phone for failing to appear for jury duty or any other legal obligation. If you receive such a phone call, text message or email, contact your local law enforcement directly to verify the information.
