Emergency Shelter and Assistance

If you are seeking emergency shelter and assistance, there are resources available to help you. Victims of domestic abuse are advised to reach out to local shelters, hotlines, and community organizations that provide immediate support, counseling, and safety planning. These services are designed to offer a lifeline to individuals in crisis, ensuring they have access to resources and a safe environment.

Emergency Shelter and Assistance Resources

The South Dakota Housing Development Authority works to provide affordable housing for all South Dakotans. Part of this goal requires providing assistance to individuals who are homeless and those who are at risk of becoming homeless.

The South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium for the Homeless Consortium brings together separate organizations with the common goal of eliminating homelessness. They can assist individuals in finding and maintaining permanent housing options. If you feel that you meet the assistance requirements contact the Consortium to find out how they can help you.

The Security Deposit Assistance Program was created to provide funding to eligible applicants for use in emergency situations to prevent homelessness or to assist persons in transitional housing to secure permanent rental housing. If you find yourself in these situations contact your local Public Housing Authorities to find out if you qualify.

If you or a family member is a victim of Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault, you should seek assistance. You are encouraged to contact these centers, who can assist you to escape a dangerous situation.

The South Dakota Network Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault is a statewide coaltion dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. It provides resources, advocacy, training, and support.
