Commission to Hold Parenting Time Guidelines Public Hearing in Sioux Falls

PIERRE, S.D.—The South Dakota Supreme Court’s Commission on Parenting Time Guidelines will hold a public hearing in Sioux Falls on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, 6-8 p.m. CDT, to gather input on potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines.

Discussion during the public hearing will be limited to potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines. View the guidelines here. The hearing is not intended for specific comments or to address complaints involving individual child custody/visitation issues.

A public hearing will also be held in Rapid City on Sept. 15. The Commission will conduct its review of the guidelines and submit a report and any recommendations to the Supreme Court, Governor and Legislature no later than Oct. 1, 2025.

The Commission was created in 2020 and includes a circuit court judge, family law attorney, childhood development professional, non-custodial parent, custodial parent, state representative and state senator. The Commission convenes every four years and first reviewed the Parenting Time Guidelines in 2021. Learn more
