Commission Announces Public Hearing for Parenting Time Guidelines in Aberdeen

The South Dakota Supreme Court’s Commission on Parenting Time Guidelines will hold its third and final public hearing this summer to gather input on potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines.  The commission is newly created and includes a circuit court judge, a family law attorney, a childhood development professional, a non-custodial parent, a custodial parent, a state representative, and a state senator.  The commission will conduct its first review of the guidelines and will submit a report and any recommendations to the Supreme Court, the Governor, and the Legislature no later than October 1, 2021.

  • The public hearing will be: Aberdeen – August 23, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time – Ramkota Hotel, 1400 8th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, SD (Amphitheatre)  

Discussion during the public hearings will be limited to potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines.  The hearings are not intended for specific comments or to address complaints involving individual child custody/visitation issues.  Written comments or suggestions may also be submitted for consideration by the full commission by mailing them to Parenting Time Guidelines Commission c/o Director of Policy and Legal Services, 500 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, SD 57501 or by emailing to casey.deibert@ujs.state.sd.us.  The deadline for written comments is September 1, 2021.
