Commission Announces Public Hearings for Parenting Time Guidelines
PIERRE, S.D.—The South Dakota Supreme Court’s Commission on Parenting Time Guidelines will hold three public hearings to gather input on potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines.
The Commission will conduct its review of the guidelines and submit a report and any recommendations to the Supreme Court, Governor and Legislature no later than Oct. 1, 2025.
Discussion during the public hearings will be limited to potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines. View the guidelines here. The hearings are not intended for specific comments or to address complaints involving individual child custody/visitation issues. The public is invited to attend the hearings in person in Aberdeen, Sioux Falls or Rapid City or virtually via Zoom.

The Commission was created in 2020 and includes a circuit court judge, family law attorney, childhood development professional, non-custodial parent, custodial parent, state representative and state senator. The Commission convenes every four years and first reviewed the Parenting Time Guidelines in 2021. Learn more about the Commission here.
