Commission to Hold Parenting Time Guidelines Public Hearing in Rapid City

PIERRE, S.D.—The South Dakota Supreme Court’s Commission on Parenting Time Guidelines will hold a public hearing in Rapid City on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, 6-8 p.m. MDT, to gather input on potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines. 

The public can attend the public hearing in person at the Best Western Ramkota (Sheridan Room) at 2111 N. Lacrosse St. in Rapid City or virtually via Zoom. View the agenda

Discussion during the public hearing will be limited to potential changes to the standard parenting time guidelines. View the guidelines here. The hearing is not intended for specific comments or to address complaints involving individual child custody/visitation issues.

The Commission will conduct its review of the guidelines and submit a report and any recommendations to the Supreme Court, Governor and Legislature no later than Oct. 1, 2025.

The Commission was created in 2020 and includes a circuit court judge, family law attorney, childhood development professional, non-custodial parent, custodial parent, state representative and state senator. The Commission convenes every four years and first reviewed the Parenting Time Guidelines in 2021. Learn more
