Phone Scammers Pretending to be Court Staff 

The Unified Judicial System has been notified of several scams statewide targeting South Dakotans.  

Reports have been made that residents across the state have been receiving phone calls where the individual identifies themself as a court employee or process server. The fraudulent callers have been asking to verify personal information by providing the victim’s social security number.  

These calls are not originating from the Clerk of Courts and are not associated with the South Dakota state courts.  The UJS urges South Dakotans who receive a call like this to hang up, regardless of county. Court staff will never seek to solicit personally identifiable information from you over the phone.
