State Bar Adopts Resolution in Support of Court Reporting
PIERRE, S.D.–During the 2021 State Bar Convention, the State Bar adopted a resolution supporting the efforts of the Unified Judicial System Court Reporter Committee to continue its mission of recruiting and retaining qualified court reporters to preserve the court record for the betterment of the administration of justice in South Dakota.
Retired Chief Justice David Gilbertson created the UJS Court Reporter Committee in 2007 to explore innovative ways to provide court reporting services and recruit and retain qualified court reporters. This Committee is currently chaired by Presiding Judge Michael Day and its members include Circuit Judge John Pekas, Karl Thoennes (Second Circuit Court Administrator), Susan Compaan (Fifth Circuit Court Administrator), Melissa Neville, Carol Johnson (Official Court Reporter), Kathryn Delahoyde (Official Court Reporter), Carla Bachand (Freelance Court Reporter), and is staffed by Beth Urban (Director of Human Resources).
